Personality: Symmetra is perfectionist, through and through. Thing like a crooked painting she finds so distracting, she has to fix them - in one instance she even breaks a fourth-wall by correcting the askew camera, through which player views her. She believes that disorder is humanity greatest enemy, and enforcing balance and harmony is a Greater Good worth fighting for. Why yes, she does believe in that Greater Good, and in her own opinion what she does, what people behind her do, is beneficial for everyone. Even if it means surrendering oneself fully to a given role. See, Symmetra despite being a good-hearted person is working for Vishkar, a somewhat nefarious megacorp with shady practices, that spoonfeeds her information about its true operations. Symmetra does have her doubts about it occasionally, but since she was groomed to be a top Vishkar enforcer from the young age she is not yet ready to break away from them. Maybe she never will.
As one of Vishkar Architech she creates objects, buildings, whole cities from a hard-light, improving lives for thousands of people.
As one of Vishkar secret Enforcers, she conducts varied clandestine, often plain illegal, missions, that seem to include espionage and blackmail. She justifies that those missions are to help Vishkar make the whole world a better place, bring peace and harmony to it, which is something she genuinely wants.
Symmetra comes as a bit unapproachable and snobbish, because of her calm, serious demeanor and striving for perfection. But in truth she is the one having troubles socializing and has limited ability to empathize with other people. A good example of that is when she was on mission in Rio de Janeiro when Vishkar tried to secure the deal about re-developing city’s Favela. There were protests of upset residents who fought for their homes while Symmetra couldn’t fathom why they were unhappy with the prospect of having their community rebuild for something more modern and comfortable. Spoiler alert: due to Vishkar meddling Favelas burned down, and what they did build there was not houses, but elegant city center. Symmetra inquired about the fate of those who lost their homes, and got a clean-cut answer that Vishkar will take care of that too (sic). It was one of those moments where her doubts started.
She’s creative and passionate but has little patience for things, and people outside that. In her creations, she incorporates a traditional indian dance, and even the way she dresses is elegant and impeccable. There is a value in cultural heritage - it deserves respect and cultivation. She wields the technological advancements with a flare.
Driven and focused she’d rather work alone, but that doesn’t mean she’s incapable of teamwork. It’s reflected in her gameplay where all of her kit resolves around helping her team and subtly boosting their overall performance - she’s not on the frontline, but she’s not a caring healer either. Setting traps and strategic areas, boosting defenses, shortening objective routes with a clever placement of teleport, and being a nuisance to her enemies on sidelines with an auto-locking weapon. (At least until the reworked that literally this month!!!!!). She prefers diplomacy to violence.
In short, she’s that bright-eyed well-intentioned idealist wanting to make world better place- at any cost and without asking if those being saved want this help or not.
Abilities: Hard-light manipulation - Symmetra is one of the best Architech employed by Viskar mega-corp, and incorporates traditional dance of her homeland in her construction method. Her left arm is a prosthetic and holds the technology allowing the bending of light into solid forms and objects. Vishkar Architechs are able of creating buildings, whole cities with this technology, the most famous example being Utopea. With this Symmetra can create everyday objects, like a chair [as seen in one of her idle animations], or decorations that hold no use but surely look pretty (like snowflakes one of the seasonal intros).
The hard-light generated through the arm also powers her weapon Photon Projector, that allows for further expansion of the possible objects, like massive shields that can withstand an onslaught of bullets or heat of fire. But that isn’t really important for now since she is not coming equipped with it.
Engineering - Symmetra is one of the brightest employees of Vishkar Corporation, and many of gadgets she uses are implied to be her own inventions. Likewise, she is apt with technology and knowledgeable of architecture and urban design.
Dancing - She’s a skilled dancer, albeit Blizzard had never specified which of the many Indian Classical dances she knows.
Strengths: focused, passionate, creative, determined, studious
